WHO INVENTED PALETAS?

Oral legends trace Paletas back to China and other ancient civilizations. People from ancient cultures would travel to frozen destinations to harvest ice for its emperors and governors. Then, they would combine this ice with rare and local fruits, creating the first versions of icecream.
At least, this is the legend known in Mexico, were the emperor’s chefs created Paletas from Popocatépetl Volcano’s ice. Therefore, for Mexicans, recipes are said to have been passed down from generation to generation.
Apart from the legend, Paletas can be traced to early 1800s, when ice was accessible to all citizens. Then, it wasn’t until 1940s when Tocumbo’s town became the core of Paletas in Mexico. There, an ice cream shop called La Michoacana added Paletas to its offerings. Then, a number of local families, filled with passion for desserts, started to create this frozen treats.
These Paleta-makers then traveled through the country and created facilities called “Paleterias”. What followed is just history! Paletas made their way across the world.

Here at Pepito’s Paletas, we make a great effort using high-quality fruits, combined with tasteful spices brought directly from Mexico. Then, we peel and prepare our fruits and combine them with Mexican spices. These ingredients are blended for a determined amount of time and later frozen.
At Pepito’s, we believed in our ancient recipes and procedures, therefore, all our Paletas are “made today to enjoy today”. The process described above happens the day before the delivery, so that we guarantee the highest quality to our desserts.
